I am excited to share a significant chapter of my academic journey – the decision to learn the Russian language. This journey has not only enriched my perspective but has also opened doors to exciting opportunities, including securing a scholarship and how communication emerged as a vital cornerstone in my academic pursuits.
My fascination with the Russian language initially sparked when I discovered that it’s a mandatory requirement for all astronauts before their missions to the International Space Station (ISS). This unique connection between language and space exploration captured my imagination, leading me to explore the language’s nuances and its relevance in the world of science and cooperation.
The co-operation between India and Russia in space endeavors further deepened my interest. It was evident that learning Russian could bridge cultural divides and foster collaborations in this global space. Fortunately, it was possible by attending Department of Foreign Languages of the University, and I eagerly delved into this linguistic adventure.
What made this journey truly remarkable was the diverse community that shared this passion. From fresh high school graduates to seasoned engineers , we were united by our curiosity and desire to embrace a new language. Learning from peers across different walks of life enriched my understanding and taught me the power of shared determination.

My journey was significantly shaped by exceptional mentors like Laxmi ma’am, Sathe sir, and the head of the language department Dr. Anagha Bhat-Behere(her TEDx talk). Their guidance and dedication fueled my progress, propelling me forward with each lesson. An unforgettable experience at the RCSC Mumbai‘s open-door program introduced me to a representative from MIPT, sparking a discussion about their Master’s program. This serendipitous encounter further cemented the importance of learning Russian and its potential impact on my academic and career aspirations.
As I honed my Russian skills, I noticed a remarkable transformation in my academic portfolio. Knowing Russian added a unique layer to my capabilities and set me apart. This became evident when I decided to take an entrance test at the Delhi RCSC. The results? A selection for the Russian government scholarship – a moment of achievement and validation for my dedication to mastering this language.
Counseling sessions that followed provided insights into the educational landscape in Russia, giving me a clearer vision of what lay ahead. Upon arriving in Moscow, I was pleasantly surprised to find that I was not alone. Several friends I had met during the counseling had also continued their studies in the same vibrant city.
The proficiency I gained in my university language classes proved invaluable as I navigated my way through Moscow. It facilitated quicker assimilation into the local environment, enabling me to explore the city’s rich offerings, from astronaut programs to scientific museums. As I interacted with locals, the true essence of effective communication became apparent – a bridge that connects cultures, ideas, and aspirations.
In conclusion, my decision to learn Russian has been an adventure that transcended mere language acquisition. It has enriched my understanding of cooperation, opened doors to academic opportunities, and underscored the pivotal role communication plays in shaping our experiences. I invite you to reflect on your own linguistic journey and the profound impact it can have on your academic and personal growth.
